KRISTIAN NILSEN JANGAARD (1826-1912). He was born 22/9 1826 as son of "Store-Nils" (Big-Nils) from the Store-Nils farm in Giskemyrane. "Store-Nils" was born in 1780 and had many children with whose descendents the Jangaard family still has close family ties.

Kristians elder brother Peter was pilot at the station of Runde and he perished at sea. His daughter Anne Marta married Simonsen in Eggesbønes and was mother to the well known Simonsen family, with which the Jangaard family at home has close connections. Kristian's sister Anne Nilsdatter was married to Knut Hanken in Borgund. Their daughter Bergitte was married to Johan Remvik in Borgund, their daughter Ingeborg married skipper Hage and daughter Regine married skipper Buholm in Aalesund. All these families have through generations kept alive close family ties, and third and fourth generations have continued this connection in the United States.

Kristian Nilsen Jangaard was also a highly esteemed person and a well known pilot. In his time as pilot the change from sailing ships to steamers and from steamers to motorships took place, a change which he fully mastered. He was well liked by captains and shipowners and up to his death in 1912, 86 years old, many ships had a standing order that when passing Jangarn they sholud honor the old pilot by slowing down speed and blow the whistle. Kristian was also honored by King Oscar II for saving lives at sea.

As will be seen the propagation within the Jangaard family had hitherto been rather poor. With Kristian and Synnøve and their children this took quite a "perilous" turn. Kristian and Synnøve had 6 children:

  1. Peter Mikal (1861-1922) married to Anne Olsdatter Valderhaug (1858-1937).
  2. Johanne (1863-1940) married to Arnt A. Farstad (1860-1917).
  3. Nils (1866-1934) married to Anna Stavset fra Ålesund (1866-1943).
  4. Karen (1868-1961) married to Andreas K. Sæter (1871-1946).
  5. Hans (1872-1972) married to Anna Blindheim (1874-1910).
  6. Marta (1876-1966) married to Ole H. Sæter (1876-1952).
