HANS PEDER LAURITS JANGAARD, born may 15. 1872 - is thus 95 years old and still going strong when this is beeing written. He started early as a fisherman, first in an open boat ("Møring"), later in a covered one and for a while on a steamer. Together with Elias Larsen Skaret he bought a sailing-vessel called "Livli", later with motor installed. Thus he had his share in the rapid development of the fisheries in the district. Hans built his house on the part of Jangaarden called "Hagen", in 1899 he married Anna Olsdatter Blindheim from Vigra (1874-1910). Anna's father, Ole, was married to Charlotte, daughter of Jon from Molnes. Anna had 2 brothers and 5 sisters: Jakob married Karoline Molnes and their 5 sons have all distinguished themselves in different ways, Ole married Oline Farstad and have 2 daughters and a son Oddvar, Port Captain in New York and in frequent contact with the Jangaards in the US. Karoline married Nils Røsvik, Ragnhild married Hans Blindheim, Jakobine married Johan Molnes, Helene married Ola Rørvik, Laura married Iver Rørvik.

Annas light heart and temper harmonized well with the easy way of the Jangaards, which characteristics has helped its members through the ups and downs over the years. Anna died August 13. 1910. She and Hans had 7 children:

  2. Sigurd born 1901 is married and lives in Culver City, Los Angeles, California USA.
  3. Olaf born 1903 married Emilie, lives in San Diego, California USA.
  4. Anna born 1905 married Nils Grytten lives in Aalesund, her twin brother
  5. Hans born 1905 married Blanche, lives in Tacoma, Washington USA.
  6. Sverre born 1906 married Lucille, lives in San Diego, California USA.
  7. Signy born 1909 married Hans Solevaag, Aalesund.

Hans remarried august 22. 1915. His second wife is Maria Bergitta Larsdatter Skjong born 15/7 1885 in Kristengarden, Skjong. Maria's great-great-grandfather Kristen Rasmussen (1765-1821) whose wife was Ellen Jonsdatter Giskeøygard, inherited Kristengarden. Their son Kristen Kristensen (1807-1886) married Berte Pedersdatter Gjøsundsæter and their son Kristian (1827-1878) and his wife Nille jakobsdatter Gjøsund were Maria's grandparents. Her parents were Lars K. Skjong (1857-1942) and Marte Rafaelsdatter Giskeødegaard (1861-1941), her brother Kristian and his wife Matea had the farm from 1919, and their son Bjarne is the present owner. Maria has a brother Ravald, married to Paula Myrstad and lives in Aalesund, - a sister Olivia who is a nurse,- and a sister Karoline married to Johan N. Skjong of Karengarden.

Maria and Hans have 7 children, and in addition to these, Maria also became foster-mother to Hans and Anna's 7 children whom she raised as her own.

Maria and Hans have also 7 children, 4 boys and 3 girls:

  2. Karsten, born 11/12 1917, married to Gudrun and lives in Seattle, Washington USA.
  3. Martha, born 31/10 1919, married to Harald Fauske at Valderøy, her twin sister:
  4. Laura, born 31/10 1919, married to Leif Lorgen, lives in San Diego, California, USA
  5. Otto born 14/5 1922, married to Nancy and lives in Seattle, Washington USA.
  6. Peter Nils, born 10/12 1925, married to Ruth lives in Strinda, and his twin sister:
  7. Bergitta, born 10/12 1925, married to Hjalmar Nordstrand at Valderøy

Of this rich part of the Jangaard family, 8 sons and 1 daughter live in the USA, 1 son and 4 daugthers in Norway. 3 of the sons of Arnt and Johanne live in USA. One must admit that Uncle Sam has helped himself to quite a lot of the male part of the family! These sons and daughters will continue this album for the benfit and pleasure of the growing family.
